Privacy Notice

Policy Version: 1.1 · Effective Date: 9 September 2026 · Data Controller: Skripta s.r.o. · Jurisdiction: European Union and Czech Republic · Status: Active

1. Who We Are and What This Notice Covers

This Privacy Notice explains how Skripta s.r.o. (“Skripta”, “we”, “us”) processes personal data when you visit the Skripta Press website, contact our publisher, use a form, or otherwise communicate with us. Skripta s.r.o., Schoellerova 936/28, Čakovice, 196 00 Praha 9, Czech Republic, is the controller for the processing described here unless a different controller is identified at the point of collection.

This website supports scholarly publishing and does not replace the privacy notice of an individual journal, submission system, hosting provider, payment service, or other external platform. Author, editor, reviewer and reader accounts or manuscript submissions made through a journal platform may be governed by that platform’s own notice as well as the publisher’s publishing policies.

2. Personal Data We May Process

  • Contact data: name, email address, department or inquiry type, subject, message content and any information you choose to include in correspondence.
  • Publishing data: where you use a journal or book workflow, information such as affiliation, professional profile, ORCID, manuscript, author declaration, reviewer report, editorial correspondence and conflict-of-interest information may be processed.
  • Technical and security data: IP address, request time, device or browser information and other limited metadata generated by hosting, delivery, security or anti-abuse systems. The contact form may include the submitting IP address in the internal message sent to the editorial office.
  • Preference data: language selection and the cookie choices recorded in the consent cookie named skripta_cookie_consent_v1.
  • Public or professional information: information from institutional pages, publication records or other lawful public sources when necessary to verify an editorial or institutional communication.

3. Why We Process Data and the Legal Bases

We apply data minimisation and use personal data only for a defined publishing, administrative, security or legal purpose. Depending on the context, the legal basis may be performance of a contract or steps requested before a contract, compliance with a legal obligation, our legitimate interests, or your consent under Article 6 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

  • To respond to editorial, publishing, institutional and technical inquiries and to keep a record of the correspondence.
  • To evaluate book proposals, manage journal and editorial workflows, communicate decisions and maintain the integrity of the scholarly record.
  • To operate, secure and improve the website, prevent abuse, diagnose failures and protect the rights and systems of the publisher and its users.
  • To meet accounting, statutory, regulatory, dispute-resolution and record-keeping obligations where they apply.
  • To use optional preference or analytics cookies only after you have made an affirmative choice. Necessary technical cookies may be used where permitted by applicable law.

4. Contact Forms and Communications

When you submit the contact form, the information is sent to the relevant publisher or editorial mailbox through the configured email delivery service. We use it to handle the inquiry, route it to the appropriate team and reply to you. Please do not submit confidential peer-review material, identity documents, payment-card data or other information that is not needed for your request.

The form includes a privacy acknowledgement. Withdrawing that acknowledgement does not affect processing already carried out lawfully, but it may prevent us from answering or continuing the requested communication. We do not sell contact-form data or use it for unrelated advertising.

5. Cookies and Similar Technologies

The website uses necessary technical mechanisms for security, page delivery and remembering your privacy choice. The cookie-consent interface stores the categories you selected for up to one year so that the banner does not repeatedly ask the same question. At the effective date of this notice, the public website does not activate advertising or optional analytics scripts by default. Any future optional technology must be enabled only after the relevant consent and must be described in the consent interface and this notice.

  • Necessary: required for security, core delivery and consent storage; these cannot be switched off through the preference centre.
  • Preferences: optional cookies for non-essential choices or enhanced functions; off until you allow them.
  • Analytics: optional measurement technologies; off until you allow them. You can change or withdraw your choice through “Cookie settings” in the footer.

6. Authors, Editors, Reviewers and Journal Platforms

Scholarly publishing requires reliable records of authorship, affiliations, editorial decisions, peer review, research-integrity concerns, corrections and retractions. If you submit or review through an online journal platform, that platform may collect account, authentication, manuscript and communication data on behalf of the journal or as a separate controller. Follow the privacy information shown in that platform and contact the journal’s editorial office when your request concerns a specific submission.

7. Recipients and Service Providers

We may disclose personal data only where necessary for the purposes above, including to hosting, website maintenance, security, email delivery, submission-platform, archiving, legal, accounting and professional service providers acting under appropriate instructions or confidentiality duties. We may also disclose information to public authorities, courts or advisers when required by law or needed to establish, exercise or defend legal claims. We do not sell personal data.

8. International Transfers

We aim to keep processing within the European Economic Area where practical. If a service provider or publishing platform processes data outside the EEA, we use an adequacy decision, standard contractual clauses, or another lawful transfer mechanism and supplementary safeguards where required. The applicable arrangement depends on the service used for the particular communication or publishing workflow.

9. Retention

We retain personal data only for as long as it is needed for the purpose for which it was collected, for the duration of a relationship or publishing record, or for a legally required period. Retention depends on the type of record:

  • Routine inquiries are kept for the period needed to respond, follow up and document the communication, then deleted or securely archived when no longer needed.
  • Editorial, author and reviewer records may be kept for as long as necessary to preserve the scholarly record, handle disputes, corrections or research-integrity matters, and meet publishing or legal obligations.
  • Security and delivery logs are kept according to the configuration and retention practices of the relevant hosting or security service.
  • Cookie preferences remain until the consent cookie expires, is deleted, or you submit a new choice.

10. Your Rights

Subject to the conditions and exceptions in the GDPR, you may request access to your data, correction of inaccurate data, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, or object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw consent at any time; this does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.

To exercise a right, contact editorial@european-science.com. We may need to verify your identity and will respond within the statutory period. If your request concerns an account, manuscript or review held in a journal platform, we may need to coordinate with that platform or editorial office.

11. Security, Automated Decisions and Children

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures appropriate to the risk, including access controls, secure transmission where supported, limited permissions and procedures for handling incidents. No online transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

We do not use personal data collected through this website for solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects, and we do not conduct behavioural advertising profiling through the current public site.

The website is intended for researchers, professionals and institutions, not for children. We do not knowingly request personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided data, please contact us so that we can assess and remove it where appropriate.

12. Complaints and Contact

For privacy questions or requests, contact the controller: Skripta s.r.o., Schoellerova 936/28, Čakovice, 196 00 Praha 9, Czech Republic, editorial@european-science.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Czech supervisory authority, the Office for Personal Data Protection (ÚOOÚ), or another supervisory authority competent for your habitual residence, place of work or the alleged infringement.

13. Changes to This Notice

We may update this notice when our services, processing activities or legal obligations change. The version and effective date at the top of the page identify the current text. Material changes will be highlighted on the website or communicated through an appropriate channel where required.
